Two Excellence Awards for University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital

T|G is thrilled to have received the 2018 Honor Award of Excellence for their design and planning at the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital from the Kentucky Chapter ASLA at their 2018 Annual Meeting on March 2nd in Lexington, Kentucky. T|G was previously awarded the 2018 Jury Award of Excellence from the Connecticut Chapter ASLA at their Annual Meeting.

When planning for a major expansion and reorganization of its Lexington medical campus UK Healthcare sought to reinvent itself as a destination for the finest in medical care. As is common with complex academic medical centers, the campus had evolved over time into a confusing array of institutional looking patient entries lacking a singular welcoming front door. One of the major site planning goals of this project was to provide that immediately understood and welcoming arrival space that was generously scaled, easily understood and simple to use for visitors. Following a six-year effort, the new hospital complex is a dramatic expansion of the existing facility and entails twin bed towers for 500 patient beds, new surgical, emergency and materials handling departments, a 1600-car garage, extensive streetscape and utility relocations and a heliport, all embraced by a unifying landscape and an iconic arrival space buffered from busy city traffic by a verdant urban park.
